Nicusor Dan Announces an Important Meeting with European Commissioner Magnus Brunner

Nicusor Dan, President of Romania, officially announces that a discussion described as constructive took place today at the Cotroceni Palace between him and the European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner. The meeting took place against the backdrop of a difficult security context, intensely felt in the region, which imposed an agenda focused on European cooperation and on strengthening the common response to current threats.

Nicosor Dan states that Romania faces increasingly complex challenges every day, but has already proven its significant contribution to the security of the European Union and will continue to act on the same path, with predictability.

In this context, Nicusor Dan thanked Commissioner Magnus Brunner for the support provided in the Schengen accession process, highlighting the importance of close coordination with the European institutions.

The Romanian official stressed that the first evaluation carried out after joining Schengen confirmed Romania's status as a full and responsible member. The evaluation did not highlight major deficiencies that would require urgent measures, which, in his view, validates the authorities' capacity to manage the required standards and to participate in the common security and mobility architecture.

A central theme of the discussion was the defense of the Union's borders, in the context of the war in Ukraine. The declaration emphasizes the recognition of the Black Sea region as a strategic area, essential for the security of the whole of Europe. At the same time, the support received at the European level for strengthening the response capacity to hybrid aggression coming from Russia, including through instruments that increase institutional and operational resilience, was welcomed.

The general message resulting from the meeting indicates Romania's commitment to remain a credible partner in managing migration flows, protecting external borders and strengthening regional security.

The emphasis on cooperation and continuity of joint efforts sends the signal that the authorities aim to maintain the assumed standards and permanently adapt to the dynamics of threats, with the objective of ensuring national and European stability.

In addition, the dialogue was presented as a practical step towards strengthening the partnership with the European Commission on operational files, from information exchange to coordination of responses to cross-border risks. According to the message sent, Romania relies on continuity, rigor and predictability, so that the European response remains coherent and efficient. The agenda remains results-oriented.
